Week Nineteen: The Descendant: A Prophecy Spoken

Tuesday came around faster than Court had expected. Waking up in a cold sweat, he could hear an uneasy laughter and his bunk mate had shook him awake. Court assured the demigod that he was fine and then headed to the baths. The morning was usual. Breakfast bright and early, Roman Mythology, Any meetings, Lunch, Discussion, and so on.

At discussion, Court planned on listening but came to find that he more of a role in today’s topic as Penates entered the room. Everyone stared at him in amusement and then turned to Court. Standing, Court address his father.

“Father.” He not looking away from his father’s eyes.

“How can I be of your service?” He wondered, feeling a swirl in his stomach.

“You are to leave here, my son.” Penates said sternly. “You have been called to battle as neither a Roman nor a Greek.”

As Penates said Greek all eyes burned into Court’s soul. There had been a change in attitude since the two camps fought by each other’s side against Gaea but some still held the hate for Greeks. He never held any because he knew there was no reason for it.

“As a Roman only God I’m surprised you even speak of the Greeks.” Court replied straightening his stance in front of everyone.

Penates met eyes with Court, turning them a gold color and then back to brown. Looking away from everyone, Court shook his head and then turned to face his father again. Sighing, he replied.

“I understand father, this is a quest I must accept.”

Penates nodded with a smirk. “You are to take Alex Keen of the fifth Cohort with you. She is fairly in need of experience but this will not slow you down and you are to bring Lane Gutav, legacy of Diana and son of Vulcan, second cohort.”

Turning his back to the crowd, Penates took a step to leave. “Father.” Court quickly remarked in seeing his dad’s lack of interest.

  “What else?”

“There is nothing else I am to tell.” He said, turning Court’s eyes a golden color again.

For a moment, the room was silent. All eyes were on Court and Court couldn’t bring himself to sit down. He had told Zhang about the quest. Why did he feel as shocked as he was? Finally, Court managed to take his seat and the discussion sparked with Reyna’s voice.

“Retrieve Alex Keen and Lane Gutav.” Reyna said to one of the others who was sitting in the room. Nodding, the demigod got up and went on their way to collect the two.

“Anything we should be worried about, Court?” Reyna questioned.

Court sighed. “I wouldn’t know. I hardly know anything of this mission and no prophecies have been spoken so I do not believe…”

Court’s voice was cut off by a girl from the third Cohort. “To truth will lies fall and bow, through blood will two take a vow, one shall rise and one shall bind, deception, trickery, and overall, despair will rule and by a betrayal will one comprehend the enemies hand, with similar weapons but opposite strengths will one save or one will state, the true hero of the battle will find themselves not under Olympus but under the Universe itself.”

Eyes turning to the girl, Court grimaced. He didn’t expect a prophecy. The fates were in on this quest? Court frowned and the looked at Reyna. The girl breathed heavily and then fainted in response.

“That’s the only reason why I miss Octavian.”  Court admitted. Reyna’s eyes darted to Courts in alarm but understood his words.

“Take her to the infirmary.” Reyna shook her head.

“She was our healer.” Court cursed, the only one in here of Apollo’s descent.

Reyna sighed. “It does not matter. The prophecy has been spoken. What can you tell of this?”

Frank Zhang sighed. “To truth shall lies fall and bow.” He paused. “Something about honor? Maybe a revealing truth?”

Franks eyes met Court’s in concern. Court knew what Frank was thinking. He had given him a reason to feel the way he did.

“Through blood will two take a vow.” Michael repeated. “Blood could mean family or blood could be a literal sense.”

Court shook his head. “I don’t have any siblings from outside the Camp.” He replied. “my earliest memories were at the Wolf House.”

Reyna shook her head. “That doesn’t matter if you know of not.” Reyna said thinking of her old friend Jason Grace. “Jason Grace found out he had a Greek sister.”

“Penates is a Roman only God, Reyna.” Court argued. “I can’t have a situation similar to Jason’s.”

Frank nodded. “It makes sense but it also talks about deception, trickery, despair, and a betrayal. You’ll find out the moment you start your journey.”

Reyna sighed. “But even then, it says not under Olympus but under the Universe itself.” She frowned. “What is that supposed to mean?”

Court shrugged. “If there was a prophecy that was straight forward I would gladly take that quest full on but I don’t believe any of us have had that small chance of a prophecy.”

  Heads around the room agreed.

“Then what shall you do?” Reyna questioned. “What do you want us to do to assist?”

“My father specifically told me to bring Alex Keen and Lane Gutav. You can give us supplies for the time being I guess that’s all I can ask for.”

  Reyna nodded. “It seems so.”

Entering the room was the demigod that left to retrieve the other demigod. The demigod who brought them gestured towards Court. Approaching them, Court held out his hand.

  “Court. “ He smirked.

“Lane Gutav.” Lane said, his voice low and husk. His hair was cut to show his ears and he gelled his hair to the front. He wore a loose blue jean vest over a plain black shirt with blue jeans. His eyes were stern and his hand shake was firm.

“Alex Keen.” The girl replied with a squeak. “She looked up at Court with a blush. “I don’t know why you would need me on your quest but I’ll be glad to do what I can for you.” She smiled. Her hair was in a blonde braid and her eyes glittered green. She wore a purple Camp Jupiter shirt and jeans.

Court nodded. “You two missed the prophecy but I guess I’ll explain that on the way.”

Lane shrugged and Alex gawked. “A prophecy?”

Court nodded. “Now, it’s your chance.”
