Week Six: The Descendant: Scouting

Tucker wore a vest made out of a cowhide and a black button up long sleeve underneath. Elli noted to make sure she find a tie of some kind to help ease her flying hair from smacking Tucker in the face. After an hour or so, Tucker pulled her in closer to solve the problem. He swore it didn’t mean anything, all he wanted was to not get whipped in the face.
Seeing that this was her first time being close to anyone besides her father and the police officers, Elli couldn’t help but blush. The detectives that came by the station were always wanting to keep a low profile but little did they know, nothing could be kept from Elli. She’d cringe at the knowledge of an affair when she passed one but decided to leave that up to the person themselves to deal with the issue. After all, Elli tried to speak only when she was asked to because otherwise she might tell a secret of someone’s (which she had before) and she didn’t want that.
Traveling on a flying horse had been a better experience than Elli thought. Even though the three were heading towards Tucker’s mission, which he refused to talk about until they got there, Elli found peace in the ride. She wondered what it was like to shoot an arrow from a bow but decided to ask Tucker when they got to this ‘Camp Half Blood’ he kept spewing about.
The camp seemed friendly enough according to Tucker. He wore a necklace of four beads meaning that he had been a part of the camp for four years. Elli touched her necklace and wondered if the beads would look any good with the different metals. If not, she’d wear it separate even though she wanted to make her life feel connected and not in phases maybe phases in life were better than a mixture of changes.
Elli laughed at Tucker’s reaction to the Mediterranean Salt Caramel gelato. She was munching away and he kept glancing down at her in interest so finally, she told him to open his mouth to try it. At first, he refused, but then she started to pick on him by saying that he was lying about his lack of interest in the flavor, which he was. Finally, he gave it and let her feed him. He blushed in amazement at the taste.
Haley the pegasi whinnied and Elli sighed. She promised to save the last of it for her so she could try to. Who knew a horse could actually have an attitude? Tucker laughed as he told Haley to lower due to them closing in on their destination. Elli stiffened as she realized that there was a chance of seeing a monster again and that didn’t bring her good feelings.
Dismounting, Tucker took the gelato cup from Elli and let Haley lick the rest up. The pegasus gladly did a small trot and threw her head back. Tucker held out his hand in case Elli would have lost balance and smiled when she didn’t. Taking a piece of paper out of his pocket, Tucker faced Elli and Haley.
“If I’m not back in fifteen minutes tops, you take this paper back to Camp Half Blood ya’ hear?” He said to Elli. “Ya’ take her back there safe and sound girl.” He said to Haley.
Elli shook her head. “I’m not going anywhere without you.”
Tucker sighed. “I’m a scout. It’s possible I’ll get caught. It’s less likely but we have to be prepared. If I don’t get back you take this to Annabeth Chase pronto.” He said handing her the paper.
 Reluctantly, Elli took it.
“Promise me.” Tucker said again before heading out.
Elli shook her head again. “I don’t make promises.” She smirked. “I keep my word.”
Tucker grinned and then nodded, disappearing into the forest. Elli ran her hand through Haley’s mane and sighed. She never thought that she’d get stuck waiting on a flying horse. Moreover, if Tucker didn’t get back then she was to head to the camp and on his word, give the paper to this Annabeth Chase girl without any sense of direction except for Haley. Elli frowned imagining the distrust as she arrived at the camp, they might not give her a chance to talk.
Eyes widening, Elli watched as smoke began to ascend into the sky. It had only been ten minutes. She couldn’t leave the forest now. Elli looked at Haley for advice. Throwing her head back, Haley stomped her to front hooves and then her two back. Elli smirked, she took that as they weren’t leaving any time soon.
To keep her mind off of the thought, Elli took the brush from the attached pack on Haley’s backside and began to brush away the stickers and such. Haley moved her head once or twice but didn’t seem to mind otherwise. Checking the time, Elli bit her lip and warned Haley who refused to move. Apparently, Haley had more faith in Tucker than Elli which was probably best since he came running shooting arrows behind him. He didn’t say much as he scrambled onto Haley’s back. On queue, Haley ran and took off leaving the smoke behind them.
Tucker’s heartbeat was fast and his face was full of sweat. Putting his bow to the side he took Elli in his arms again to prevent her hair from smacking him in the face. His breath esd heavy in her ear making her stiffen.
“What happened back there?” Elli finally decided to ask when she saw they were far enough from the scene.
“Imps.” Tucker said with a sigh, turning away from her ear as he noticed his own actions. “Sorry.”
Elli smirked. “Don’t worry about it, Haley wouldn’t have moved even if I told her, you were late by a minute.”
“That minute mattered,” Tucker replied in anger. “Girl, ya’ could of got us both killed.”
 Haley kicked lightly in response.
Tucker frowned. “I know ya’ have faith in me but the girl.” Tucker shook his head. “Every new recruit is special. I didn’t want to lose ya’.”

“And lose a perfectly functional scout?” Elli shook her head. “Not a chance.”
